Amir Ardestani-Jaafari

I am an assistant professor at the Faculty of Management. I obtained my Ph.D. in Management Sciences from HEC School of Business, the University of Montreal, where my advisor was Prof. Erick Delage. Before joining UBC, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University, working with Prof. Beste Kucukyazici. My research interests lie at the interface of healthcare operations, supply chain management, and multi-stage optimization under uncertainty. My work has two main threads: (i) developing new tools for dynamic optimization under uncertainty and (ii) applying these to operational problems.

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Management Faculty of the University of British Columbia, Okanagan (UBCO). I hold a Doctorate in Industrial Engineering from Sabanci University, where my research has primarily focused on public transportation systems, particularly the LPP. During my studies, I had the privilege of collaborating with the Berlin Zuse Institute (ZIB) on a project involving the Istanbul Metrobus.

My expertise lies in a range of areas, including network optimization, large-scale optimization, robust optimization, Benders decomposition, logic-based Benders decomposition, local branching algorithm, columns and constraint generation. I am passionate about finding innovative solutions to complex problems and utilizing optimization techniques to improve efficiency and sustainability.

I am a master’s student in Statistical Machine Learning with a focus on Sustainability. I received my B.Sc. from the University of Tehran, majoring in Engineering Science with a sub-field in Computer Engineering. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with Lululemon to explore sustainable fashion using machine learning techniques to analyze consumer behavior. My research incorporates robust optimization to ensure reliable insights into the key drivers of sustainable purchasing decisions, even with uncertain data.
